We will have had our first meeting of the New Year on January 11 before you receive the newsletter. Our study topic was “Can War Be Holy?” and we also reviewed the PC(USA) 1969 statement, “War, Peace and Conscience,” which concludes there are three groups of conscience that can draw equally on the church’s teaching in support of their position. We were reminded that, as Christians, our “holy war” is against evil. A review of Paul’s letter to the church at Ephesus in Ephesians 6:10-20 reinforced how we are to equip ourselves for this war.
Our next meeting will be Monday, February 8, at 9:30 a.m. at 4822 Peridia Blvd. East. We welcome all women to join us. If you are not able to attend the meeting and Bible study, please join us at 12:00 on the same day for lunch at Bob Evans’ Restaurant on State Road 70. There will be a sign-up sheet for lunch in the narthex.
The first Crafters meeting of 2010 will be Monday, January 18, at the home of Wilda Svoboda. Join us to learn about ministries and crafts in which we participate.
A ladies’ luncheon is planned for the second Monday of each month at 12:00 at Bob Evans’ Restaurant. Our hope is that we will become better acquainted with each other. A sign-up sheet will be in the narthex for each monthly luncheon. If you have any questions, please see Charlotte Rawlings who is overseeing these events.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
It seems so little to say to each of you for your support of our Joy Crafters Holiday Bazaar and Baked Goods Sale, both at the Peridia Clubhouse and at the Sabal Harbour Community Center. However, it is a very sincere expression. Thanks go to each who contributed crafts and baked goods, to those who helped set up, monitor and clean up at the sales, and to those who contributed by purchasing goods. Joy Circle made slightly over $700 in sales. Of this amount we have already contributed $500 toward the purchase of a much-needed computer in the church office and a TV to be used in Christian Education efforts. As I have mentioned in the past, Joy Circle also pays for the church listing in the Saturday edition of the Bradenton Herald. Your support helps in these endeavors and is greatly appreciated.
Our Bible Study topic in February will be “Outsiders Become Insiders” with the Scripture focus found in Joshua 2:1-24, 6:25, and 9:3-27. Have you ever felt like an outsider? Or have you ever been tempted to smugness because you are an insider? Join us to affirm God’s plan for our lives.
