Something Really Did Happen 2000 Years Ago

Christianity is based on an improbable claim: namely, that a Jewish carpenter who was crucified 2,000 years ago rose again from the dead and turned out to be the Savior of the world.  As in most things, people who know little of the Bible or history think the improbability of this claim is a new discovery, the result of modern enlightenment.  But the people who wrote the Christian Scriptures understood how strange the claim of Jesus’ resurrection sounded, even to their contemporaries. - more-

Worship

The month of May had a change in the Contemporary service for a few weeks.  We had some equipment problems that created the need to combine that service with the Traditional service.  Changes occurred to the Traditional service as well.  The time was changed to 10:00 for the summer months.  Now all is well for the Contemporary service and effective May 31, 2009 the worship service will be back to their 9:00 hour.  One other change to that service is that it will end at 9:40 to allow time for the parishioner time to leave and the worshipers for the 10:00 service to find their seats.  These changes are ONLY FOR THE SUMMER MONTHS.  The schedule will go back to the normal 9 & 10:30 the first Sunday in September. -more-

Mission

Our generous congregation gave $878 to One Great Hour of Sharing.  This money goes to wherever there is a need - thank you.  Also we have filled a second barrel in the narthex with nonperishable food for Meals on Wheels Plus - this is an ongoing project because this is an ongoing need.  We received thank you's from Meals on Wheels and Our Daily Bread for the $200 checks we sent each of them. -more-

Building and Grounds

Hurricane Insurance – The insurance is going to cost $6,534 and had to be confirmed by May 31st.  This is a strain on the budget so any monies toward this added expense will be GREATLY appreciated.

Chuck Schulze installed a lightning arrestor for the electronic sign on Route 70 and Harry Sykes later installed a ground for the box.

The Church building was pressure washed and the windows cleaned on April 15th, thanks to the following:  Chuck Schulze, Tom Meade, Dan Berardi, Chet Kobel, Harry Sykes, Scott MacRae, Louis Seddon, Wilda Svoboda, and Fran Sykes. -more-

Fellowship

We had a great time at our first Mother’s Day Tea.  We were pampered by our four servers:  Leroy Hocking, Billy Lowe, Tom Meade, and Jack Harmon.  A big thanks to them.  I also want to thank my team for their help in planning, preparing and cleaning up for the tea.  Couldn’t have done this without you all.

The Father’s Day plans are still in the making but, of course, it will involve food. -more-
